Harald's House has received the best new year's present it could have hoped for - the pledge of a block of land vital to move the project forward in 2008.

It is a wonderful boost for Harald Falge – founder of Street Level Youth Care - and the many people who have believed in his work and shared a vision to give young people a chance to break the cycle of homelessness and get their young lives back on track.
Harald said he was "over the moon" about the firm commitment of land by a local developer.

"There is a still a long way to go but securing the land was the major obstacle we needed to overcome. This is the best indication yet that 2008 will be the year in which Harald's House can be built by and for the community of Cairns," Harald said.

The next critical step is the launch of the community building appeal at Harald's Second Supper-a special event to be hosted at Brothers Leagues Club on Saturday, June 7, at 7pm.

With $396,000 already raised by our community and pledges of practical support in the form of labour, materials and sponsorship coming in every day, it was hoped a building project would be underway before the end of the year (subject to the normal planning and council approval process). A concept design has already been completed and an application for planning approval is underway thanks to a project management team spearheaded by Cr Terry James and Conics (formerly C&B Consultants).
